MEMIC: THE PAST YEAR WAS MARKED BY CHINESE TOURISTS AND THE SUDDEN GROWTH OF VISITS TO SPAS AND MOUNTAIN CENTERS
In the Republic of Serbia in 2024, compared to 2023, the total number of tourist arrivals increased by 5.7 percent, with the number of foreign tourist arrivals rising by 11.7 percent.
During 2024, we recorded 2.4 million foreign arrivals, representing an 11.7 percent increase, and 6.1 million overnight stays by foreign tourists, which is a 9.2 percent increase compared to 2023. Last year was marked by Chinese tourists, with almost 157,000 arrivals and more than 404,000 recorded overnight stays. An interesting trend in 2024 was the sudden increase in interest from foreigners in our spas and mountain centers. Thus, compared to 2023, there was a 12.1 percent increase in foreign tourists in spas and a 33.9 percent increase in mountain centers. The most foreign arrivals were recorded at Vrnjačka Banja and Vrdnik Spa, while the mountain centers of Zlatibor, Kopaonik, and Fruška Gora saw the highest visits. – said Minister of Tourism and Youth Husein Memić in a statement for Tanjug.
He added that during the past year, aside from China, the largest number of foreigners came from Russia, Turkey, Germany, and regional countries.
The continuous commitment to the development of tourism in our country is already yielding significant results, and I am confident we will continue to achieve successes and break records, thereby contributing to Serbia's economic growth and improving the living conditions of our citizens. Tourism is one of the key drivers of economic development, and it is important to continue with strategic investments in this area. Through joint work and engagement, we can achieve even better results and strengthen Serbia's position as an attractive year-round tourist destination, Memić stated.
